CHA PaperArts | Spellbinders Celebra'tions
Spellbinders unveiled a new collection at the CHA PaperArts show last week that wasn't just new designs but a whole new direction for the company. The collection, Celebra'tions by Richard Garay, is a break from Spellbinders' typical style in more ways than one.
Garay's previous position was at Stampin' Up!, and influences from that type of style and sales are definitely visible in the Celebra'tions line. Spellbinders' usual style is very vintage and intricate. By comparison, the Celebra'tions line is simple, cute and fun - a look that could attract a whole new segment of customers to the company.
The line seems especially tailored for card makers, with die and stamp sets, embossing folders, and even its own color palette of ink pads and cardstock. It is, essentially, an entire self-contained program - similar to something that you would see in direct sales, and an easy foundation for teaching classes and helping launch beginners.
There is also, as seen on the far left of the photo below and in the pinwheel above, a coordinating collection of patterned papers.
Here's a closer look at the patterned paper in use in some cards:The Celebra'tions line includes all the necessary basics for card making like layering shape dies, sentiments, flowers, banners, and even twine! The darker part of the turtle in the card above is colored with a product called Silk Luster, which is a liquid shimmer ink.

Garay designed the color palette for Celebra'tions to be "cheerful, bright and yummy". The result was a selection of a dozen happy tones that aren't exactly pastels, but aren't overly dark or glaringly bright either. The papers are available in 24 sheet assortment packs in both 8.5 x 11 or 12 x 12 sizes, or in 12 x 12 single color packs (also 24 sheet packs). In addition to the collection's 12 main colors, there are also 12 x 12 packs available containing 24 sheets of "Whirl White" or "Cuddle Cream" as a neutral.

Cardstock in 12 x 12 packs will have an MSRP of $12.99, ink pads will MSRP for $7.99, and dies and stamps will retail for $9.99-$19.99.
