Silhouette Promo | Easter Candy Bags & Boxes
Today I'm bringing you two of my favorite things together - Easter candy and a Silhouette promo - along with another favorite of mine, the Silhouette cut files of designer Lori Whitlock! She designed both of the candy container templates I used for these projects.
These fun containers make a great way to share a sweet treat with someone, and can be adapted for any holiday with themed supplies. I used my Silhouette's Print & Cut feature, along with some themed print & cut files, to make these festive for Easter.
Besides a Silhouette machine - I used my Silhouette Portrait to make all of these - and a printer, all that is needed is a few simple supplies (pictured below). These are really quick and simple projects!
Gable Boxes
First, let's take a closer look at the gable box, which is secured with notched tabs and a ribbon tie at the top. This is great for small candies and treats - I filled these with little chocolate easter eggs and other candies.
Supplies (left): Silhouette Cutting File (3d Gable Box by Lori Whitlock), Bazzill Smooth Cardstock (Ocean Breeze), Silhouette Print & Cut File (Watercolor Happy Easter Title by Jennifer Wambach), Silhouette Clear Printable Sticker Paper, Fabric (for ribbon tie), Adhesive.
Supplies (right): Silhouette Cutting File (3d Gable Box by Lori Whitlock), Bella Blvd Snapshots collection paper (Rise & Shine), Silhouette Print & Cut File (flower tag by American Crafts), Ranger Tim Holtz Distress Ink (Picked Raspberry), Papertrey Ink stamps (Mega Mixed Messages), Ribbon.
The cut file for this box was originally laid out for a 12x12 Cameo cut so it had to be rotated and adjusted in Silhouette Studio before cutting on my Portrait but that was a simple thing to do and then I was ready to go! Assembling the box takes all of a minute with a tape runner. As you can see in the picture, I should have used a stronger adhesive on the blue box. I learned my lesson and switched (and used more) after that one!
On the left hand box, I used a Print & Cut file to create the Happy Easter logo. I measured the size I needed on the box, then adjusted the file to fit it in Silhouette Studio. Then I turned on the print & cut registration marks, and printed the file on Silhouette's Clear Printable Sticker Paper. I then loaded the print into my Portrait, set the settings for my sticker paper and hit "cut". I was left with a sheet with a perfectly cut out sticker. The blade did not penetrate the back of the sticker sheet, so anything that is printed and cut in this manner can be stored on the sheet and then peeled up when you want to use it. The clear sticker material is surprisingly thick, almost like a transparency rather than the clear sticker material you are used to seeing on scrapbook stickers. This makers it much easier to maneuver and place correctly. There's also some room for error in placement since it won't really adhere until you burnish it down.
If you've never used Silhouette's Print & Cut feature, check out this video to learn how it works:
Yes, it really is that easy. I've done it flawlessly every single time I've tried it, starting from the first time! If I can - you can. I've never wasted a sheet of media on a bad cut.
On the floral print box (on the right above), I opted for a fun print & cut tag by American Crafts. Once again, I measured to get a size that would be appropriate, and then I printed and then cut the file on plain white cardstock. Since the file was just a flower with no sentiment, I grabbed a stamp that said Easter Wishes and added it in an ink color that coordinates with the patterned paper.
To fasten the boxes I just used ribbon on one box, but on the other I used a strip of fabric with distressed edges that makes a great ribbon substitute. I received this a long time ago in a ribbon swap and had no idea what I was going to do with it, but held onto it through several purges because I really liked it. It was the perfect fiber for closing this box. Hoarding justified? That would be a scary thought.
Candy Bar Wrappers
The candy bar wrappers (which hold a 1.55oz Hershey bar) are a super-quick project and the possibilities for customization are endless. The cut file by Lori Whitlock comes with the circular element designed to be a ribbon slider but of course you can opt to leave it off if you'd like in favor of decorating the whole wrapper.
Supplies: Silhouette Cutting File (3d Chocolate Candy Bar Sleeve by Lori Whitlock), Bazzill Smooth Cardstock (Kraft, Walnut Cream), Silhouette Clear Printable Sticker Paper, Silhouette Print & Cut File (Gentle Rabbit by Beatrix Potter, Peter Running by Beatrix Potter), Tim Holtz idea-ology Jute String.
I opted on this project to go for a more rustic old English country version of Easter: the simple kraft wrapper, earthy green twine, and the classic Beatrix Potter rabbit images. Like the Happy Easter logo on the box above, the Beatrix Potter images were printed and cut on the Silhouette clear sticker paper, after being sized in Silhouette Studio to the correct size for the ribbon medallions. Attaching them with the jute string was more in line with the rustic feel and was made easier by threading the string onto a yarn needle.
