Many thanks to Lawn Fawn for sponsoring this segment! Their fabulous products are perfect for cardmaking!
This segment was all about translating layout design to card design. A lot of us who scrapbook, myself included, often times feel like we can't design cards because the space is so different on a card from our usual design canvas. My Scrapbook Soup segment showed how to take the design of a layout that you liked, and translate it into a card design!
In my segment I translated two layouts into cards. The first layout celebrated my daughter's 10th birthday in May. (I can't believe we're into double digits!)
I used Lawn Fawn's coordinating paper collection called Pink Lemonade to create a block of patterned paper strips. That is so easy to do when you work with pre-coordinated product! Two of the strips I used white paper for, and turned them into text elements.
If you are wondering what the pop dots on the supply list were used for, they were used to raise the flower sticker high enough to not be swallowed by the chipboard number "0".
Supplies:
Lawn Fawn “Pink Lemonade” collection
Lawn Fawn “Sophie’s Sentiments” stamp set
Bazzill textured cardstock in White, unknown pink
Bazzill smooth cardstock in White

Martha Stewart Daisy stickers
I've been doing a lot of zig zag stitching on projects lately and here it is again on my card! I also edged the card with ink, and did the same thing to the sentiment strip. There's foam dots under the sentiment strip to give the card some depth.
Ribbon would have been too bulky for these small tags that I cut from watercolor paper with my Sizzix machine, so I used twine instead. I wound it several times to give it the bulk I wanted. The centers of the flowers are given some dimension with a dot of Ranger's Enamel Accents.
It's kind of hard to see in the photo but I distressed the edges of the tags so that it would give them more shadow and dimension, and a bit more textural detail.

This layout is probably my favorite of all the Scrapbook Soup projects I did this season. The design came out just like I envisioned (which never happens for me!) but there is also a story behind this moment as well as it being a great Disneyland castle picture. I am grinning from ear to ear because I had gotten absolutely fantastic news about my husband just moments before this picture was taken, that he had finally received a transfer we'd been waiting for and had become very afraid would never happen. That moment marked the end of what might have been the most stressful period of the entire last 3 years.
These Lawn Fawn papers are perfect for the retro style of Disneyland, and the pink and blue color scheme of the collection goes perfectly with the castle!

I love this card so much! I used my sewing machine again for more zig zag stitching, along with another of my favorite techniques - inked edges.
This is a very fast and easy card - the clouds are die cuts from my Silhouette machine, and the balloon is surprisingly simple to stamp, die cut and color with Lawn Fawn's coordinating stamp and die. Projects like this are a great example of where electronic die cutting is useful. I had a plan for where I wanted to put the elements, and using the electronic cutting files, I was able to cut my elements to the exact size I needed to make them fit where I wanted them.

And now for the giveaway!!! Thanks to the generosity of Lawn Fawn, six Scrapbook Update readers are going to win prizes in this giveaway!
First up, we're giving away one of the "Sophie's Sentiments" stamp set I used on the first card and layout. This is an incredibly versatile set for card making, and one of Lawn Fawn's most popular:
Next up, the second prize is a set of the "Blue Skies" stamp set I used on my second card. These balloons are so trendy, and have some elements in the set that have a variety of uses on their own, like the arrows and the banner.
The third stamp set in the giveaway in called Petite Florals, and it's the one that I used on the card with the tags. This lovely assortment of flowers can be used with or without the leaves and stems that are included, and there is a nice swirl embellishment too. The scale is perfect for card makers!
Pink Lemonade was one of Lawn Fawn's first paper collections, and we have THREE of them to give away to our readers! This cheery collection of pink, lemon, green, and orange was used for the first card/layout combo.
