Trending | Feathers (Part 4): Cut them out!

I'm back with the fourth and final installment in the Trending: Feathers series! So far we've looked at: feathers in scrapbooking stuff, feathers in other potentially crafty stuff, and DIY! feathers. Today we are going to talk about die cut feathers. I have a Silhouette Cameo, so that is what my projects used, but the ideas and inspiration pieces can easily be adapted to be used with any other cutting system -- or any other kind of feather you might fancy! Check out my Pinterest Feathers board for dies and cutting files.

I used cut feathers on this layout in three different ways. First, I cut a feather out of the top third of the white cardstock background, and backed it with new Crate Paper Party Day pink and red diagonal stripe (which I literally took out of the box when I opened my order at home, and then put directly onto this layout. Love it that much).  Second, I used that white cardstock feather that I cut out of the background, and I misted it with aqua blue. I used a few different colours, and concentrated the darker mist on the left side of the feather, to create a sort of messy ombre look. The third feather is a different style than the top two. I cut it out of plain cardstock, then covered it with chunky gold glitter. That's a pretty fast, easy three ways to dress up a simple feather die cut to add to your page!

Supplies | Cardstock: Bazzill. Patterned Paper: Crate Paper (Party Day, Maggie Holmes), American Crafts (Dear Lizzy). Buttons: Crate Paper (Party Day, Maggie Holmes). Digital Cut Files: Jenni Bowlin Studio January 2013 Paper Crafting kit, Silhoutte (Emilee Stucky).

The top two feathers are from the Jenni Bowlin Studio feather digital cut file that was included in their January 2013 Paper Crafting kit. The feather on the bottom was this feather set by Emilee Stucky at the Silhouette America store. If you missed out on the Jenni Bowlin kit, you could try these feather cut files in place of the one I used: Fancy Pants Designs feathers, or Kerri Bradford Studio feathers. I really like the contrast and combination of the two feathers types -- one simpler, one wispier.

Don't forget to stop by the Trends: Feathers Pinterest board for lots more inspiration and ideas! I'm pinning new stuff every day (almost), so check back in!
