Create Royal Wedding Tea Party Decorations on a Budget!

It's surprisingly easy to throw a tea party themed party. By hitting a few thrift shops and digging around in a few cupboards (or borrowing from friends & family), you can probably find everything you need to create fabulous royal wedding tea party decorations!

Laura Ashley tablecloth

A great tablecloth - either a soft floral or a white lace - goes a long way to creating a tea party theme. If you don't have one in your linen closet that will work, hit up your local thrift and discount stores. I got lucky and scored this vinyl Laura Ashley one for only $5 at my local Ross store recently. What's more English than Laura Ashley?

Since I don't entertain a lot, I didn't have a lot of serving dishes to use. I hit up a local thrift store and grabbed a major score - a glass cake stand and three glass serving platters for a total of only $7.50! (Yay for thrift store half off days!)

The berries added a decorative touch on the table as well as being delicous! I borrowed some glass bowls from my mom's dish collection to hold them along with the Devonshire cream. The floral creamer is Pfaltzgraf, part of our wedding china. It doesn't perfectly match the tablecloth but that is what makes the beauty of a true English tea table - eclectic mismatch.

Tea Party Decor

The scones add a classic touch as well to the table (before they get gobbled up, that is). I put them on a small cake plate I scored in the dollar section at Target about two weeks ago, with a doily for an extra touch of elegance. (Like many papercrafters, I have a stash of Wilton craft doilies to use for projects.) It's a little detail, but it added so much to the overall impact of the  table!

Tea Party Scones

I could have just put the mini muffins in plain white wrappers. Instead, I took the time to find a set of mini muffin wrappers in colors that coordinated with the rest of my royal wedding tea party decorations! They cost just a bit more than buying plain white, but the effect was worth it and I have a bunch left over to use on another day.

Tableware is a great way to set the party theme. I wanted something elegant but not overdone. I found the perfect (and affordable) thing at Target in their party planning section. For $11, I got everything I needed to serve 6 people, with a few extras.

A small mason jar was the perfect way to hold the silverware on the table. It showed off the gold and coordinated with the other glass serving ware at the same time.

The final touch for my royal wedding tea party decorations was a vase of flowers. To keep the budget under control, I hit the floral department at my local Publix grocery store. They sell small floral bundles 3/$12 that you can arrange yourself to make a bouquet. I bought three bundles: spray roses, gardenias, and a filler. With those three flowers, I was able to create a beautiful English garden style bouquet for the table. (The prearranged bouquets in that style cost twice as much as the elements that I bought, so I saved money and got to have the fun of chasing the cat away repeatedly while I arranged them myself.)
