Project | Heidi Swapp Marquee Love Butterfly
A few months ago, as part of the ongoing renovation of my craft studio, I made a Heidi Swapp Marquee Love monogram letter project for the new decor. The marquee monogram letter was a big hit with my 12 year old daughter. Since I am about to launch an overhaul of the decor in her room as well, I decided to make a Heidi Swapp Marquee Love Butterfly for her too!
For my studio I had gone with a vintage, antiqued look. But for my daughter's room I wanted something fresher, and more fun. I chose the Heidi Swapp Marquee Butterfly that has been part of the spring collection available at Michaels Stores.
To create this project, I paired the Heidi Swapp Marquee Love Butterfly with a Heidi Swapp 8x8 paper pad, pink glitter tape, white glitter tape, and a set of pink lights.
Using the white glitter tape on the inside edge was much faster and easier than the paint technique that I used on the previous Marquee Love project!
The butterfly is one of the rare Marquee Love shapes that has a fairly sizable open area in the center. I took advantage of this by putting some American Crafts glitter Thicker alphabet stickers in the space to spell a word. I think the space would have looked very empty and unfinished without something in it, especially with this simple designed pattern paper as the background.
I made use of the open space on the rear as well. It was the perfect place to use self-adhesive velcro tape to secure the battery pack for the light string. With the velcro, I can remove the battery pack if I need to but it stays securely in place while the butterfly is moved around (important for its new home in the room of an active autistic child).
I left the lights as the original white on my monogram for my studio, but my daughter loves everything pink. So I decided that the pink lights would be perfect for her, as well as a nice contrast to the green background. In the dark, with the lights turned on, they look more white but I still like it.
This project is just the first piece of new "tween" decor for my daughter's room. Now that I have this piece created, I can build others around it! I have a whole paper pad to work with...I wonder what I can make with the rest of it?
