Promo | Layout Background with Silhouette Cameo
When thinking of what to do with twelve whole inches of cutting width, the first thing that immediately jumped to mind (of course) was to make a background for a 12x12 layout! The cutting file I chose (Background/Stencil by Tanya Batrak) could also have worked as a stencil, but I chose to cut out the design directly from my background paper and then place a contrasting color background paper behind it.

The cut out background fills a large area of the layout quickly and easily, which was great because I wanted to create a layout from only one small Instagram photo of my daughter at the library, and I didn't have a lot of journaling or other things to go with it.

The background isn't the only cut file on the layout. The title "sticker" is actually the word "cute" made out of washi tape sheets! It has a nice translucent effect on top of the gridded card, allowing the design to show through. As a bonus, the word was super easy to adhere since the washi is self-adhesive!
I used more washi tape - this time an assortment of strips - behind the photo to "ground" it. The tape also helped brighten the layout with a splash of color.
A sprinkling of acetate butterflies and foam dotted hearts increased the girliness of the layout and also spread some color around. In the bottom right corner, the embellishments had another usage: filling space.
I didn't really have much to put on this large journaling card except for the date stamp, but it fit so well in this space and coordinated with the other two on the other side of the layout. Filling the extra space with the embellishments kept it from being awkward.
This layout was so fun and came together so fast! Being able to cut out 12x12 backgrounds really can be useful!
