Project | A Great Pair: Silhouette & Fancy Pants Designs!
As soon as I saw the preview of the new "Burlap & Bouquets" collection by Fancy Pants Designs, I knew that I just had to play with it!

It's actually even more beautiful in person than the computer screen can show. The subtle color tones just can't be done justice with the limitations of jpgs and computer displays.
When I sat down to create, I decided to do an experiment. I tasked myself to create at least one layout and maybe some other items with the "Burlap & Bouquets" collection items, my Silhouette Portrait machine, and as few other items as possible.
I managed to create one layout and three cards sticking to this formula - and in what is probably record time for me! The restricted choices made decision making so much easier, since I am prone to endless shuffling of paper and embellishments trying to pick the "perfect" one when creating. But with just the single collection and its accessories in front of me (thanks to Fancy Pants for sharing the samples!) my work flow went so fast. I think I may try to do this way of creating more often.
I stuck pretty well to my self-made rule of not grabbing too much extra stuff to use. You can make all four of these projects that I'm about to share with just this supply list:
Bazzill Smooth Cardstock in Walnut Cream (2 sheets of 8.5x11)
Bazzill Smooth Cardstock in Kraft (1 sheet of 8.5x11)
Project Life Date Stamp
Journaling Pen
Tim Holtz for Stamper's Anonymous Stamps (Mini Blueprints 3)
Adhesive Faux Pearls by Recollections
DMC Embroidery Floss #746
Foam Dot Adhesive
Tombow Mono Adhesive
Scrap Cardstock in dark green
Plus these cut files from the Silhouette Online Store:
When I was done, I still had 7 sheets of uncut patterned paper and most of the stickers remaining from the collection pack. I also have over half of the buttons still to play with. I only used one item each out of the tag and flair packages, so I have plenty more of those to make projects with as well. I am looking forward to working some more with this beautiful collection! Fancy Pants has a habit of making collections that I use over and over and can't get enough of. (I'm still hoarding the last remnants of my Park Bench stash for the perfect project!)
This doesn't exactly scream "Animal Kingdom" to you, I bet:
But select out a few of the papers (removing the pink and the florals), and suddenly the Animal Kingdom appears:
I turned it into a layout about animals we saw on the Kilimanjaro Safari during a visit last year to Animal Kingdom:
This is a great reminder to look past a collection's title and "signature style" papers to focus on pattern and color and what other possible uses they might have.
The title letters and the tab with the date stamped on it are stickers from the collection kit. The image in the bottom left hand corner is made by layering two different die cuts. I built this layout first by creating the photo block, then designing the die cut block to balance it. I changed the size on the die cuts slightly to better fit the space that I had for them. The image with the tree and the giraffes is actually a long border that has a second tree on it. I snipped it off with scissors at the spot I decided I wanted it to stop.
Next the title and journaling when on. The very last element added was the camera stamp. I felt the journaling block was making the layout top heavy - the title wasn't heavy enough. It needed something but not a lot. The light colored camera, at a jaunty angle, added just enough weight to pull the layout down. And it's a great addition to the theme!
After my layout was finished I decided to turn my attention to creating some cards, as my card stash needs refreshing. "Burlap & Bouquets" looks great with Lori Whitlock's card templates. I created three coordinated cards using different templates by Lori.
Using a tag on top of a tag seemed a bit of overkill, but I couldn't resist. When I trimmed the top off of the "So very thankful..." tag, it became a beautiful die cut embellishment. The addition of the flair badge and the pearls complete this quick and easy card!
Nobody does butterflies like Lori Whitlock, and she has some great butterfly cards in the Silhouette store. On this design, the cut-out shape and the pattern of the paper you use can do all of the work. There's no real need for embellishment (although I probably could have put a few pearls on the body in the center).
The last card has some great details in the design of the die cut. There's pre-cut stitching holes for the edge of the heart, as well as anchor points for the buttons. The die cut file comes with buttons to cut out but for a bit more dimension (and for convenience) I decided to substitute buttons from the collection's button set.
So there you have it...three cards and one layout made with little more than my Silhouette machine and elements from one Fancy Pants collection!
