CHA 2014 | Brother Scan-n-Cut with Project Runway's Anthony Ryan Auld
Brother is at CHA 2014 in Anaheim showing off their new die cutting (and scanning) machine called the Scan-n-Cut. This machine is the craft industry's first die cut machine that has a built in scanner, allowing users to scan something and then die cut it out. It also has the ability to attach pens to create sketch drawings of a scanned item.
Brother Scan-n-Cut is a standalone machine that does not require a computer to operate. A version of the machine is available on Amazon currently for an MSRP of $399, but the version shown at CHA will have a somewhat higher MSRP.
Anthony Ryan Auld, fashion designer of Project Runway fame, was in the Brother booth showing off the Scan-n-Cut on Saturday. He was very excited about the project possibilities of the machine with fabric, especially since it can cut without the use of stabilizers. Instead the machine has two different mats, each with a different tack level, for cutting different types of fabric.
Several projects were on display that Auld had created with the Scan-n-Cut, including a handbag, an applique t-shirt, and a wristlet.
Some papercrafting projects were also on display in the booth, an application more familiar to CHA attendees.
