Radiant Orchid is Pantone Color of the Year for 2014
Pantone announced this morning on NBC's Today Show that their Color of the Year for 2014 is "Radiant Orchid".
Pantone described Radiant Orchid in the announcement as "a captivating harmony of fuschia, purple, and pink undertones."
“While the 2013 color of the year, PANTONE 17-5641 Emerald, served as a symbol of growth, renewal and prosperity, Radiant Orchid reaches across the color wheel to intrigue the eye and spark the imagination,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®. “An invitation to innovation, Radiant Orchid encourages expanded creativity and originality, which is increasingly valued in today’s society.”
Radiant Orchid shows a slight softening in the Pantone color of the year palette, after two very bold choices - Emerald for 2013 and Tangerine Tango for 2012 - marked the past two years.
The color codes for Radiant Orchid are:
RGB: R177 G99 B163
CMYK: C33 M72 Y0 K0
HTML: B163A3
Stampers looking for an ink to match Radiant Orchid might want to try:
Jenni Bowlin for Ranger - No. 13 Lavendar Sachet
Tsukineko Brilliance - Purple
Both are discontinued but still in stock at some locations.
The choice of a shade of purple is not entirely surprising, as purple has been trending lately in fashion and is expected to be prominent in spring 2014 lines, and purple was everywhere in this year's scrapbooking Halloween collections. The pink tinge of Radiant Orchid makes it somewhat different than most of the purple products I've been seeing, however.
