New York Times bestselling author Laura Childs has come out with the latest book in her bestselling "Scrapbooking Mystery" series, called Gilt Trip
For those unfamiliar with the series, the Scrapbooking Mysteries series is based in New Orleans and focuses on the adventures of scrapbook store owner Carmela Bertrand, who seems to have a knack for solving mysteries that fall into her path while running the Memory Mine store and swirling through a calendar filled with New Orleans' most ritzy social events. Gilt Trip is the 11th book in the series. This installment centers on the murder of a business tycoon, who is released from prison only to be murdered at his "welcome home" party!
Gilt Trip is a fun, light read (perfect for passing the time as the weather is turning cool and keeping us inside) and the New Orleans atmosphere in it is vivid and enjoyable. Carmela's scrapbook store makes more than a passing appearance, and there is detail on several mixed media projects as well. And in case all of the book’s decadent cajun meals make you hungry, there’s recipes included for Big Easy Brownies, Cajun Chicken, and Crockpot Meatloaf.
Although I am not typically a fiction reader, I personally found Gilt Trip to be an entertaining read.
