Trend | Ombre
In the past year, the ombre trend has made quite a splash across fashion runways and into the home deor industry. The colorful trend can be spotted in hair color, shower curtains, nail enamel, cell phone covers and even shoes.
And perhaps the trend couldn't be hotter than within the wedding market. From bridesmaid dresses in vibrant tones to wedding cake icing in soft shades for every tier, the ombre trend is headed full speed ahead into 2013.
But what exactly is ombre?
As Merriam-Webster defines it:
om·bré / having colors or tones that shade into each other —used especially of fabrics in which the color is graduated from light to dark.
I recently started an ombre pin board on Pinterest and within days, I had good collection of images from painted furniture to tableware to jewelry.
Ombre is usually depicted in monocromatic shades of one color, though more than one color can be used as well. Ombre can add color and texture without motif.
Since ombre has had such a marked influnce in the fashion world, it made me wonder if the trend has translated over to the scrapbooking world.
The answer is a resounding yes!
You can see it in products:
American Crafts Ombre Album
We R Memory Keepers Ribbon
Prima Flowers
Dear Lizzie Ruffles
Bazzill Monochromatic Cardstock
We R Memory Keepers Eyelets
Doddlebug Mini Pearls
Ombre has also been a favorite in challenges and tutorials in both paper scrapbooking and in the digi world. Here's a round up of six different ideas:

I was so inspired by some of these products and challenges that I decided to give the look a try myself and I created this layout:
Supplies:
Martha Stewart doilies
American Crafts Daiquiri thickers
Prima flowers
American Crafts brads
To work the ombre effect into the background of my layout, I used one of Heidi Swapp's resist papers with a variety of shades of Ranger inks. I started with the darkest color on the bottom, fading into white towards the top.
So the question everyone wants to know is: how long will the ombre trend continue? It seems here to stay for 2013 at least, based on the CHA Winter 2013 product releases, that is for sure!
