Advantus Acquires Sulyn Industries
Advantus announced today that they have acquired substantially all of the assets of Sulyn Industries, which manufactures and sells glitter and sequins in Coral Springs, FL, as well as importing craft products.
Sulyn Industries has been selling products such as glitter, sequins and craft kits to the crafts industry for over 25 years. The company made news early in 2010 when an Associated Press investigation on children's toys imported from China named Sulyn as one company that had imported metal toys from China that contained high levels of toxic cadmium. The AP reported that its tests on a bracelet charm sold by Walmart that was imported by Sulyn in 2008 showed high levels of cadmium, a carcinogen.
Both companies are based in Florida. Sulyn's operations will be leaving their current home in Coral Springs and moving to Advantus's headquarters in Jacksonville, with Sulyn products beginning to ship from Jacksonville in early December. Advantus is promising that "several key employees" will be remaining with Sulyn through the operations transfer.
Advantus already owned craft brands Cropper Hopper, Tim Holtz Idea-ology, The Girls Paperie, and Tree of Life. In addition to its crafts brands, it owns such brands as Vituri, Z International, and See Jane Work.
