Adobe Creates Online Version of Photoshop
Adobe entered the world of online photo editing and sharing today with the release of the public Beta of its Photoshop Express website.
This free site allows for uploading and storing 2GB of images, which can then be edited using simple tools. The available editing options, however, are decidedly NOT simple - ranging from basic red-eye removal to more advanced options like white balance, pop color, and touch-up options. This site definitely has more power for the user than previous options in this space such as Flickr and Picasa do. Yet it is still easy to use. One of the especially great features is that unlike its software equivalent, it allows for easy comparison of different editing options to select the best one.
After editing, photos may be emailed, linked to, embedded in another site, or even downloaded back to the user's computer. They can also be shared via a gallery that sets up a unique URL for each user's customizable page. This gallery can be public or available only by email invitation from the owner - possibly a great way to display scrapbooking portfolios.
The site is still in Beta so it does have some limitations, like the 2GB storage limit, and there will certainly be some changes (and probably some premium options) coming in the future. I rarely recommend adopting a Beta but I would definitely recommend getting on board with this one!
