Scrapbook Answers To Cease Publication
According to information posted this evening on the Two Peas In A Bucket message board, editors and staff have been informed that Scrapbook Answers magazine will be ceasing publication after its November 2006 issue. The decision was apparently made by the magazine's British parent company, Future PLC, based on the publication's unprofitability at the one-year mark despite it's newstand success. A statement was posted from Editor in Chief Leslie Ayers stating that:
We found out today that our company, Future Inc., is closing Scrapbook Answers. Unfortunately, it was a decision that was arrived at based on the overall company's financial situation and recent changes in the overall company business strategy. It's not in any way a result or reflection of Scrapbook Answers' success or our reception in the market. Scrapbook Answers has been as successful as we had hoped, meeting all newsstand sales goals since our launch, and growing our subscriber base in the first year much faster than we anticipated. Not to mention the fact that Scrapbook Answers is a wonderful, useful, good-looking magazine that our readers adore.
Sadly, this means that November 2006 marks the last issue of Scrapbook Answers.
As you can imagine, it was a very sad, really terrible, day here at the office. All of the SBA editors and art team poured their hearts into this magazine, not to mention working so hard to make it the absolute best publication we possibly could. We couldn't have done it without the wonderful groundswell of reader support and positive reception.
Scrapbook Update is attempting to contact a company representative for comment on this information and will update readers if any new information on the situation becomes available.
On a personal note, my best wishes go out to the magazine's excellent staff at this difficult time for them. They have produced a wonderful publication and it is unfortunate that its parent company was apparently unable to be patient in allowing it time to meet financial goals.
Edited to add: I was able to secure the following statement from Drew Kerr, a media representative for Future US, Inc, the parent company of Scrapbook Answers:
Our mission is to be a premier provider of content in multiple media areas for young men. Thus, games, technology, music and action sports remain our key areas of focus and investment in print and online as well as through our expanding event efforts and custom publishing. Within this refocusing we have had to make a very difficult decision about Scrapbook Answers.
